Reading the Rate Card: A Transparent Look at Companion Pricing in Dehradun

Where the Misunderstandings Begin
Most disputes in this industry aren't about money. They're about assumptions. An American client books a companion in Dehradun, sees a rate quoted in rupees per engagement, and quietly imports a set of expectations from home — hourly billing, all-inclusive pricing, a tipping culture borrowed from Las Vegas. When reality doesn't match, the result is an awkward conversation at best and a one-star review at worst.
This article exists to prevent that conversation. What follows is a plain-language breakdown of how pricing actually works in the Dehradun market, based on how reputable agencies — including ours — structure their engagements.
How Rates Are Typically Quoted
Unlike the US market, where hourly billing dominates, Indian companionship rates are usually quoted in blocks:
- Short engagement (2–3 hours): often a flat rate, typically covering dinner or a single outing.
- Overnight (10–12 hours): the most common booking type for visiting clients, priced at a meaningful discount per hour compared to short engagements.
- Full day / extended stay (24 hours or more): negotiated case by case, factoring in travel, meals, and the companion's lost availability for other bookings.
The per-hour math matters less than the block structure. If you ask for "two hours" and then extend to five, you should expect a revised rate — not a pro-rated one. Extensions are almost always billed at the discretion of the companion or agency, and politely requesting an extension early (not at minute 110 of a two-hour booking) goes a long way.
What the Rate Includes
For a standard booking through a reputable service, the quoted rate generally covers:
- The companion's time for the agreed block
- Her local transportation within Dehradun city limits
- Discretion, professionalism, and screening already completed by the agency
What It Does Not Include
This is where American clients most often stumble:
- Travel outside the city. A trip to Mussoorie, Rishikesh, or Haridwar typically incurs additional charges — sometimes a flat outstation fee, sometimes a revised full-day rate, plus the client's share of transport and lodging.
- Meals and activities. If you invite a companion to dinner, you're covering the bill. This is standard everywhere from Dehradun to Dubai, but it should be stated explicitly in your own budget, not discovered at the table.
- Hotel incidentals. Room service, minibar, spa bookings — yours.
- Specific personal services. Reputable agencies are explicit about scope. If anything is unclear, ask before booking, not during. A professional agency will answer plainly; one that won't is telling you something.
The Tipping Question
American travelers tend to over-tip, which is a far better failure mode than under-tipping — but it's worth getting right. Tipping is not expected in the Dehradun companionship market the way it is for US hospitality workers. A thoughtful gift, a genuine thank-you, or a positive review often means more than cash.
That said, a gratuity of 10–15% for an exceptional multi-day engagement is never unwelcome, and a small cash tip for a driver or hotel staff separately is customary in India generally. Keep these categories distinct in your head and in your wallet.
Currency and Payment Practicalities
- Rates are quoted in INR. At recent exchange rates, ₹10,000 is roughly $120 — do your own conversion the day you book, not the day you read a forum post from 2022.
- Reputable agencies accept a limited set of payment methods and will confirm them clearly. Be wary of anyone demanding unusual payment channels before any introduction has occurred.
- Never negotiate an agreed rate downward mid-engagement. If a quoted rate doesn't fit your budget, book a shorter block instead. Attempting to renegotiate in person is the fastest way to end an arrangement and earn a reputation you don't want.
The Five-Minute Pre-Booking Checklist
Before confirming any booking, ask exactly three questions:
- What does this rate include, and what's billed separately?
- What are the terms for extending, and what does an extension cost?
- If travel outside Dehradun is involved, how is that priced?
Any professional agency will answer all three without hesitation. The clients who write glowing reviews aren't the ones who spent the most — they're the ones who asked the most, politely, before the door ever closed. Transparency, in this market as in any other, is a two-way street.
